The Philadelphia 76ers pulled off a dramatic 110-108 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night at Wells Fargo Center, marking another tough loss for a struggling Clippers squad and a much-needed boost for the Sixers.
Maxey Shines in Clutch
Tyrese Maxey was the star of the night, pouring in a game-high
39 points to lead Philadelphia’s comeback. Maxey also added
6 assists and knocked down
4 three-pointers, including the go-ahead layup that capped a 14-3 run in the final minutes. His performance was crucial as the 76ers erased a 10-point deficit late in the fourth quarter.
Clippers’ Struggles Continue
Despite
James Harden scoring
28 points and reaching the milestone of
28,000 career points with a first-quarter layup, the Clippers couldn’t hold on. Los Angeles has now lost
eight of their last nine games, dropping their record to
4-10 on the season. The team was short-handed, missing
Kawhi Leonard (ankle/foot sprain) and
Derrick Jones Jr. (knee injury), while
Paul George made his season debut after recovering from knee surgery, finishing with
9 points and 7 rebounds in 21 minutes.
Late Game Drama
The game came down to the wire. With
1:08 left,
Andre Drummond put the 76ers ahead 110-106 with two free throws.
Kobe Sanders responded with a pair of free throws to cut the lead to two, but a controversial call was overturned after a Clippers challenge. Officials changed a foul on Maxey to a steal by
Kris Dunn, giving LA a final chance to tie or win. Harden missed two three-point attempts in the closing seconds, sealing the victory for Philadelphia.
Injuries and Absences
Both teams were missing key players. The 76ers were without
Joel Embiid (right knee injury management),
Kelly Oubre Jr. (left knee sprain), and
Adem Bona (right ankle sprain). The Clippers’ injury woes continue to pile up, with Leonard sidelined for the seventh straight game.
What This Means
The win improves the 76ers’ record to
8-5, while the Clippers’ slide deepens their early-season crisis. With only two wins in their last 10 games, the Clippers now face a
crossroads as they look to regroup and avoid a prolonged slump.
