A 19-year-old Texas A&M student from Laredo was found dead outside an apartment complex in Austin early Saturday morning, hours after attending a tailgate party for the Lone Star Showdown between Texas A&M and the University of Texas on November 28. The death of Brianna Aguilera has sparked controversy over how authorities are investigating the case, with her family questioning the official narrative.
The Night That Changed Everything
Brianna Aguilera, a United High School graduate and aspiring lawyer, traveled to Austin on Friday to celebrate the rivalry game between her school and UT. According to her mother, Stephanie Rodriguez, Brianna attended a tailgate party where
underaged attendees were allegedly served alcohol. Police reportedly told Rodriguez that her daughter became intoxicated and was subsequently kicked out of the event.
After leaving the tailgate, Brianna ended up at a friend's apartment complex near UT's campus. Early Saturday morning around 1 a.m., she was discovered unresponsive outside the building. Investigators believe she
fell from the 17th floor of the apartment complex, but this conclusion has become the center of intense family scrutiny.
Family Rejects Official Narrative
Rodriguez is adamant that the official explanation doesn't align with what she knows about her daughter.
"She would not jump off a 17-story building," the grieving mother stated.
"She wouldn't—she was afraid of heights. The measurements don't add up. So I need someone to take accountability."The family's skepticism extends to how Austin Police are handling the investigation. Rodriguez expressed frustration that authorities are
not treating the death as a homicide case, instead classifying it as potentially accidental.
"I just want them to stop saying that they're not treating this as a homicide case," she said.
"Someone did something to my daughter."A Life Cut Short
Brianna was described in a GoFundMe as a
"seasoned cheerleader with dreams of becoming a lawyer." She was just one year away from earning her Aggie ring, one of Texas A&M's oldest and most cherished traditions. Her mother emphasized that her daughter had everything to live for and was not suicidal.
Rodriguez spent the night searching for Brianna after not hearing from her, only to receive devastating news the following morning. She is now preparing for what she called
"the hardest day that is probably going to be in my life, to put my daughter to rest."Investigation Concerns
The family has raised multiple questions about the investigation's thoroughness. Austin Police initially told Rodriguez that
24 hours had to pass before filing a missing persons report, which delayed the search efforts. Additionally, specific details about the investigation have not been released to the public, leaving the family and community with more questions than answers.
As Rodriguez continues her fight for accountability, she remains determined to uncover the truth about what happened to her daughter during those crucial hours between the tailgate party and her tragic death.
